Charles William Linge was born in Thetford (Thetford Q2-1897 4B:383) son of Charles William and Ellen LINGE(née BROWN).

1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Greenland Cottages, Culford with his father Charles W LINGE [29] warrener/gamekeeper born Thetford; his mother Ellen [30] born Thetford and sister Ethel M [5] born Elveden.

1911 census...Aged 14, a farm labourer, he was at Seven Hills, Ingham with his parents and sister Ethel. So far no documentary evidence links him with Icklingham and his name does not appear on the Elveden Column, albeit his sister was born there..


He enlisted in Bury St Edmunds.
He died at No 14 Stationary Hospital, Wimereux. It is not possible, without his Army service records, to say where or when exactly he was wounded. The battalion Ypres Salient in early April 1915.

Charles Linge is buried in Wimereux Communal Cemtery, grave 1:E:26A
and is commemorated on the Elveden war memorial in the church there.
